St Ives and area

Quick's Cottage is just a mile from the bustling fishing village of St Ives which is undoubtedly one of (if not the) prettiest in Cornwall.

It can be reached in just 5 minutes by car (or taxi) or by walking the costal path which leads directly to the Tate gallery and the stunning Porthmeor Beach.

St Ives has a superb range of restaurants and bars and a selection of interesting boutiques and shops. There is also a range of practical facilities and attractions like the recently built leisure centre and swimming pool, cinema and a good supermarket.

The Coastal path from Trowan to Porthmeor Beach leads to one of Cornwall's finest beaches and is popular with both families and surfers. There are changing facilities, showers and lifeguards. Wetsuits and surf boards can be hired most of the year.

Its aspect means that it enjoys fantastic sunsets over the sea. As the sun goes down for the evening people congregate with a glass of wine to watch a beautiful sunset over the sea.

Just round the headland from Porthmeor beach is the picturesque St Ives harbour with colourful fishing boats and shops. The quayside bustles with excellent restaurants, modern bars and traditional Cornish pubs. It is possible to hire a small motorboat to potter around the bay admiring the views.

Two beaches in St Ives are award winning Blue Flag beaches, Porthminster and Porthmeor. Porthminster is the ideal beach for families with safe bathing at all states of the tide. The backdrop of palm trees and sub-tropical shrubs provides a Mediterranean atmosphere, as does the popular beach restaurant, which is often visited by artists who live and work in St Ives. The sand is of particularly high quality, as evidenced by the sand sculptors who regularly visit this sheltered beach. The sandy shoreline of Porthmeor is a haven for diehard surfers and a hot favourite with families looking for a fun day out by the sea. Water sports are the order of the day at this almost tropical flavoured location, but alternatively you could just lie back on the crisp golden sand and soak up the atmosphere, with the Tate St. Ives art gallery dominating the backdrop of the beach.
